Hello I've been trying to tack down an uprated Main bearing Stud or bolt kit for my 998cc with 1.75inch main journals

Found this below but it is no longer available. Others have sold the kit but they are the ones that supplied it. Unless there is stock laying around somewhere its not an option

http://aptfast.com/s... Main Stud Kit

Do I have any options or am I only to use normal new Main bolts? I would like to have a worry free overbuilt bottom end if possible, short of adding a center strap. Using the best bolts possible would be prudent if possible.

Thanks,

Kyle

The main bearing bolts aren't normally a problem and don't need uprating,  use ARP for the big end bolts though.

This ^.

I also wouldn't be fitting a Centre Main Strap. Regardless of what mods have been done, you just won't need one. The fitting of most entails removing material from the Cap and this only weakens them.

Okay Thank you Gents ill drop the search and use normal main bolts. I did acquire the ARP rod big end bolts.

3rd paragraph does say to use ARP washers under the main bolts. Thoughts?

What is the Engine, what modifications are contemplated and what is it to be used for ?

998cc +.020

10.5:1 compression ratio

12G295 head

1.21 in 1.0 exhaust valve double valve springs

Md266 cam kent

1.3:1 Alloy Roller Rockers

ARP head studs

Lightened Duplex timing set

Pre balanced Crank damper

Light weight 9.88lbs flywheel

Center oil pickup tube

3.21:1 final drive

Cross pin Diff

70amp alternator

Electronic distributor for the 266 cam

twin 1 1/4" SU carbs HS2

Stub stack

Freeflow manifold

Rc40 exhaust

This is a road car that will be driven hard, revved hard, and one that I want to build once and last a very long time. It's a full nut and bolt stripped chassis restoration/customization Mk4 with a lot of mk1 style.

Measuring the stock main bearing bolt seeing as replacement OEM bolts are not available anywhere either it seems, I found this bolt at ARP that matches the stock mains bolts but are guaranteed to be quality.

along with ARP washers reccomended by Calver tuning

OK thanks for the Engine Spec.

Those are the bolts you can use.

Be sure to use new Dowels with them.

You can use Washers if you want, but really, they are not warranted on this build. Be sure however, as with any build, that the Spot Facings on the Caps are free for wear from the old bolts.

Thanks for the input. Ordered from ARP $24.21 total plus shipping. Cheaper than ordering the potentially Cheeseium OEM bolts from mini spares that are out of stock anyway
