Trying to fit the standard alloy handles that everyone seems to have now on minis, but the holes for the standard handles are too narrow, so i see people fit them diagonally, so do I just drill a hole and cram the plastic thing in it or is there a better way?

Thanks everyone for the replies, I didnt realise that it was a standard thing on later cars, but i ended up drilling the holes out and then filing into a square to fit the plastic screw retainer

As far as I know the aluminium interior handle sets didn’t come out until the ‘90s once Minis had gone to the diagonal fitting handles.

If you have the early horizontal handle and want to convert to later angled position, you could just drill a suitable size hole for a self-tapping screw if you don't want to use the plastic fitting (some of which need a square hole). When drilling the inner door skin metal be careful as the drill breaks through not to hit/dent the outer door skin with the tip of the drill !
