Hi everyone,

has anybody out there had any experience with purchasing and / or using a small vehicle scissor lift or anything

similar?  I am thinking of buying one as i'm getting a little long in the tooth for crawling under cars!!

Any help would be appreciated as to what type of lift to get for the classic mini.

  cheers Andy

I had one for a bit and to be honest it was such a pain to load the car on and off that I never bothered with it.  It also got in the way of working on the front subframe and exhaust.

Personally I wouldn't bother but  if you do make sure that its easy to use, also think where you will store it when not in use.

The scissor lifts only go up to waist height anyway, so you end up bending over, and it makes your back ache anyway. Better off on the floor. A good 2 post ramp would be ideal, but you'll need a high ceiling in a detached garage for that.

There is a good aternative called the MaxJax, I don't know if they're available in England, but it's a 2 post lift designed for low ceilings, and unlike my scissor jack it's wide open underneath, A buddy just bought one and it's terrific, plus while it bolts to the concrete floor, it uses sets, so you can unbolt it and the uprights have wheels so you can roll it out of the way when you're not using it.
