Is there a comprehensive list of all the bits required for an engine build ??

I'll hopefully be rebuilding a new engine in the new year and whilst waiting for the block/head to return from the machine shop I'd like to start stock piling all the bits I'm going to need to get it built.

I'm aware of the big stuff - cam, timing chain, ignition etc...it's the other bits and pieces that I'll need that without which will delay the build.

Spec is 1380cc fast road.

Many thanks.

well you should have already got the cam and the valves and rods and pistons. I would hope that the bearings are being supplied by the people sorting/checking the crank.

so only really your gaskets etc.

Plasters, and a Tea Pot, or cans of beer, along with a great big dollop of patience :-)

Joking aside the Parts are not usually the big deal, its more the correct Tools for the job. I am sure there is a list on the site somewhere.. accurate Torque Wrench(s) and Feelers gauges and measuring calipers is my biggest issue

This is a list from a car build list that I use;-

Pistons -  (set)

Piston Rings (set)

Main Bearings

Big End Bearings

Crank Thrust Bearings

Big End Fastener Set - ARP

Cam Bearings (STD)

Camshaft

Oil Pump Drive Adaptor (if needed)

Duplex Timing Chain Kit

Countersunk Screws for above

Cam Off Set Key - Check Key Needed

Cam Followers

Cam Thrust Plate

Crank Woodruff Key
Valve Guides

Hardened Exhaust Valve Seats

Inlet Valves

Exhaust Valves

Valve Keepers

Valve Spring

Valve Spring Top Hat Retainers

Valve Stem Seals - Late Type

Oil Pump

Oil Filter

Copper Washers for Oil Pipe Banjo Bolt

Dipstick

Dipstick Tube (Metal)

Oil Pressure Relief Valve Kit

Oil Filler Cap – Sealed / Unsealed as required

Rocker Cover Grommets

Head Studs - Short

Head Studs - Long

Head Nuts

Rocker Shaft

Split Pins for Rocker Shaft

Distributor Collar O Ring (A Series)

VRS Gasket Kit

Engine Gasket Kit

Conversion Gasket Kit

Timing Cover Seal

Oil Way Plugs - Main Gallery (M14)

Oil Way Plugs - Cylinder Head (5/16" UNF)

Freeze Plugs

Sealant - Gasket

Sealant - Silicon

Engine Mounts

Engine Steady Bar Bushes

Water Pump

Fan Belt

Radiator Hoses

Primary Gear Thrusts

Primary Gear Seal

This only really covers the Engine, just with the way my list is arranged, Gearbox, Flywheel & Clutch are not in that particular list.

I'd also have the Radiator Overhauled or a new one made, Overhaul the Carb and Overhaul the Distributor. To me, these items as part of an engine build, are not optional.

Thanks SO much all, especially Mr.Moke Spider...

That's exactly what I needed. A shopping list that I can tick off as I get it.

Can't beat this Forum for help and advice.

Thanks again. Much appreciated
