Is it possible to fit an A+ series crownwheel and pinion/diff into an A box ? even with some small modifications ?
Diff is a 3.1 CWP (not sure what it is out of) into a "A" Austin 1300GT box.

sure. but you do need to make some decisions on what parts you want to use and use the appropriate parts.
the easiest is just to swap the CWP over to the existing diff set up.

I don't see any problem, presume it's for the better ratio?
As above, just swap the bits you need to avoid driveshaft differences.

Unless you have the later main bearing retainer you will have to remove some metal from the inside of the early one as the 3.1 pinion is a larger diameter.

anyone got some more information on this machining ? link to a video etc ? just want to have a look whats involved before I pull the trigger.

My winter rebuild included fitting a 3.1 CWP to my A series 'box. The bearing retainer only just touched the pinion slightly so removing enough to clear was very easy. I did it with a die grinder but it is such a small amount you could probably manage with a decent half round file. Fit the 3.1 pinion and then try the bearing retainer in, you will see how little needs to come off.

heres a pic of each type, you just need to take the inner part out to clear the pinion by a couple of mm.
