Hi guys I've had my mini for nearly 6 years and I've finally got round to sorting out bits of rust/going for an outside respray, but I have no idea where to find the colour code there is no sign on the inner wing, is there a way to find out what shade my mini is???

If the ID plate is not on the RH inner wing is it on the boot floor? This is a common location for some export models.

Hi! I have a plaque on the passenger inner wing with FE21xxxx but nothing on the drivers side inner wing! I'll check the boot floor now!

Ah! Nothing on the boot floor either, I dont know why but I have a strong feeling it may be BLVC387 Barley Yellow, I just need to prove it haha!

.... is there a way to find out what shade my mini is???

Yes

....did you want a bit more information than that?

It's a '77 so no paint code on the ID plate or anywhere else (the FE plate is only an internal stock control number & doesn't relate to anything else -if you change the wing then cut it off & weld it to the new wing to keep it as close as possible to original)

Always found up inside the rear wheel-arch is the best place to find original paint. Chip off any underseal, wipe with a cloth & white spirit & if your lucky -hey presto!

Check the manufacturers date stamp on things like your wiper motor -if yours was registered in very early '77 it could have been made in '76 & they had different colours.

If you can't find any original paint then why not choose something that would have been right for that year, I like to see cars painted in their original colours but at the end of the day it's your car so paint it whatever colour you want whatever anyone else may say.

Hello! The dash rail, the wheel arch and everything else is this colour, only the front end is slightly off!, judging by the charts you shown me it may be inca yellow?

Sorry can't help on that one as i don't know much about Mk4s -could be Armadillo Nostril Pink for all i know! ....now if you were to sell it & buy a Mk3 then that would be a different matter  ;-)

I was worried that your Mini was originally Barley Yellow -it only came out in 1980 (so it could have been a later Mini with a fake ID) but yours is definitely a late 70's Mini. The roof gutter drain channels changed in 1980 to being in line with the seam mouldings. Perhaps it has had a full respray in Barley Yellow at some time.
