Roller Bearing Removal

Best Answer Spider , 23 December 2019 - 03:17 AM

Moke spider, do you mean using an adapter on the end of the 1st motion shaft? Any ideas why the 1st motion shaft isn’t coming out with the bearing?

The Bearings are normally quite a firm (very firm) fit on the shaft. While not something I've come across, if the Bearing is moving and the shaft is stationary then all I can think of the Nose Bearing between the 1st and Main Shaft is somehow jammed up.

Hey guys,
Trying to remove the roller bearing from gearbox. I've done this before but I've installed a new RHP and now disassembling as I couldn't shift 3rd and 4th gear. I've managed to move it about 5mm and I understand the first motion shaft should come with it but it's not. What am I doing wrong? Yes I've removed the circlip. Thanks.

Yes. It’s just the mainshaft assembly still inside.

If it's not coming out square, it can 'hook up' on the case. I use an adaptor and slide hammer.

I've had this too, struggled for ages until I realised it was not square and locked in the housing.  Knock it back in (yes I know) and try again by ensuring you hit it square (change your position on the bearing).  I wish I could make up an adapter and use a slide hammer.  Need to buy a welder!!
