Personally I wouldn't change the needle without changing the jet too. Both do wear and quite rapidly with the "bias" spring on the needle. usually means the needle and jet end up with a flat bit, and hence no longer round. This pushes the needle towards the engine side more and allows fuel to "leak" past the back of the needle. (hope that waffle makes sense)
