If these are for the hydrolastic bump stops then presumably early non hydro cars dont have them?  Can anyone with a pre hydro car confirm?

I had always assumed they were where the felt pads were but never really bothered to check.

Either way with no hydro and no felt pads I wouldn't be overly worried about fitting them.

If nothing is there now to impact them then they are superfluous.

Reviving an old thread but currently looking at these on my car. They sit right below the seat belt anchor points that attach to the back seat panel and boot floor. I'm wondering if they're possibly there as reinforcement for this?

They were fitted long before rear seat belts came about.

I don't feel as bad about ripping them off now!

I personally think that if Rover could have left them off, then they would have.

They are some kind of strenthening plate that are there for a reason.

I will be replacing mine.

My '71 dry suspension shell had them and I always assumed they were for Hydolastic versions. Certainly they didn't seem to perform any function for the subframe.
