was hoping to fit opening rear windows in an 87 shell is it possible , im sure someone said somewhere there a different size from fixed windows thanks in advance

Sure just get some and fit them.

They are a different size as they sit outside the opening rather than in it. But they will fit.
You will need the correct seals and probably need to make the holes in the shell for the hinge and catch screws.

It's an easy conversion, you'll need

Opening windows and hinges
Opening window seals, preferably used or genuine.

A 3mm drill bit and an assistant to hold the window or drill holes.

Only drill holes once the window is lined up and the front hinges are touching the shell of the car.

Did this myself a while back, the hardest part of the conversion was the expected rust under the old seals.

 

The rest is easy. When it comes to bolting them in place, i found using alloy rivnuts and machine screws give a far more solid feel like they've actually been bolted in instead of self tappers. Just make sure to only need to drill each hole once and you're golden.

Self tappers are fine, thats the way they were made on the assembly line.

One tip is some windows are tinted green and some are clear, be sure to get the ones that match the rest of your car

Basic models didnt have them, My 1987 City E didnt come with them and I retro fitted them, did the same on a 1995 Sprite. All the classier editions, Mayfair and most of the LE specials did as standard.
