That is excellent work and very much food for thought, especially with the price of rear subframes.

I was always told that you can't weld rear subframes by my MOT man and just took it at face value but in reality there is no reason you can't if you do it to this standard.

You are allowed to repair welded subframes by welding, the criteria being"does it appear to be as strong as the original?"Cast or forged items should not be welded.Steve..

Is there cast or forged parts in the subframe ? I didn't find any.

I think sonscar just mentioned that for general purposes?

Like if you habe a rear radius arm broken, then you can't weld it.

Anyway, welding cast or forged parts is another piece of cake as sheet metal.

Very nice job by the way gaspen!!

I think if I follow the rules of welding, I will be successful. I hope at least  :proud:

Note that hi-tech checkin tool  :proud: Anyway it points to radius arm.

A test fit again before I continue welding.

I will use a sleeve instead of a bush for holding the radius arm pivot. The triangle part will be re-manufactured

I'd like to ask some advice from the helpful readers.

Somewhere in 1975 at the end of a hard working day Pedro wasn't able to target the spot welder evenly. The front crossmember looks like a shooting gallery after a I drilled the spots.

Plan A : welding the holes, re-drill them even distance, the welding the insert back

Plan B : leave it as it is now and using the unevenly holes

And some pics about the process :

Personally would make them all align on the same line, but that's just because I'm picky... ?
If you weld it all up, you can chose to spot weld if you'd like too. Would make it cleaner I think.

B if you can live with it?

By the time it's Zinc primered, stone-chip resistant coated and bolted underneath the car, who's going to know?

If like mentioned you are picky then even them up, but once welded up you wont see them so ignore and carry on.

Definatly B, once welded up and ground back you won't see them anyway and the spot welding on most cars is uneven to some degree, they weren't built by computer controlled robots so some variation was inevitable.
