I'm currently working on two Minis, a 1986 which I'll be painting in cellulose, and also a 1998 ... but what type of paint will have been originally used on the '98 car? Would it be a straight colour or a clear over base system?
I'm thinking it's best to keep to the original type but there may be preferred alternatives now, I'm not doing a full spray though, only the areas that are being repaired. The colour is flame red (COF) if it makes any difference.

Rub an inconspicuous area with some wet n dry paper. If it is coloured it is cellulose or 2k solid and if it is clear it is clear over some type of base(probably).Steve..

If its metallic it will be COB, if at that point they were using COB even the solid colour will be I would think. Most other manufacturers were using COB at that time.

Thanks for the answers.
COB gives a really good finish on flame red so I'll plan to go with that :)
