im currently running a ballast coil without a 1.5 ohm ballast resistor , basically got the car two months ago and still sorting through the wiring etc, it runs a 1275 metro lump   using the lumenition  mega spark 3  ballast coil do I need the ballast resistor that is supposed to be with this coil  see enclosed photos ,theres no stamp on the dizzy either not that I can see just a few numbers so not sure what dizzy its running  6VXZy1b.jpg

gonna clean the engine to see if I can find out what the dizzy is exactly ,no idea just by looking at it

That's a late electronic type dizzy, looks to be a 65D.


I haven't used that coil before, so cant comment on the compatibility

The correct coil for a 65 is GCL143, but there was a topic not long back where some were saying they were using ballast coils successfully.

 

Your coil should be 1.5ohms & a GCL143 is 1ohm, so I don't think you'd need to add more resistance.

The GCL143 is an old Unipart part number but can still be used for cross reference.

running a balast coil without the balast is likely to cause the coil to **** itself,  i had this on a mini where it got through a coil about once a year, it was fie once i put the right coil on.
