Hello all

Just a quick introduction ..

I have just bought a little 84 mini sprite, 998, "yellow" with my 17 year old daughter ....

When i looked at it the floor has been replaced and and a coat of Rust-Oleum painted on ... The sills and subs are good and the body is 90% rust free with just the odd surface rust spots ...

Went over the body with a magnet and it all seems to be metal ......

This is a project car for me and my daughter to "bond" and it will be her first car when finished (hopefully 6ish months) I think she was born in the wrong era because from the age of 6 she has wanted either an old Mini or an Escort Mk1 into cassettes and vinyl ..... Escort way out of my pocket so Mini it is!!

I'm guessing my influence has something to do with it, having owned 4 mk 1's and 2 minis in my early driving days .. stories of ware wolf hunting at the local forest and pitching a tent when you run out of petrol or hit a coastline ...... "oh the fun times we had!!!!!!"

Anyway .... Back to the mini ..... The engine spins and the steering rack feels good, not been on the road for a few years stored at the back of a garage ...

I am sure we will spend quite a bit of time posting and browsing the forum over the coming months gleening pearls of wisdom from people that know the car and the stuff i have forgotten now the grey sponge is fading .....

Hi and welcome from another Widnes resident. There's a few of us around the town and local area and have regular meets at various venues (must get round to actually going to one again) and have formed SUNMC, Somewhere Up North Mini Club.

Love to see some pictures of your project.

Thanks Panky
Cool that there a “micro” community local ... I’m guessing We will be needing some close by help during the project ... I will upload some pictures later when I figure out how to .. it’s probably going to be a full renovation with engine strip down and rebuild as well as complete respray and interior ... I do have all the parts so it’s more of a replace old for new project and changing safety stuff for more modern alternatives as it’s a new driver using it ...
