Hi all,

I have recently treated myself to a 1998 Mini Cooper sports pack. It has been rebuilt to stage spec and I absolutely love it.

I owned a few minis in the past but have not had one for the last 10 years, but as I turned 40 this year I thought I would relive my youth, or as my wife would say “mid life crisis”.

There is one issue that I cannot seem to remedy at the moment and from reading all through the posts it is not the first or last time that this will mentioned. The car is running slightly rich and the revs sit at 1500 rpm for a second or two on deceleration. I wondered if there was anyone in the Dorset or Hampshire area with an MPI code reader that would be able to help me get a fault code read out.

I live in Christchurch, Dorset but I am willing to travel.

If anyone knows of any current Mini clubs I could join in this area then please could you let me know.

Thanks very much.

Nick

I'd recommend fitting a new throttle cable as a first resort.

Don’t know if it is the same but I had a similar problem on an MPi. I fought that I could put my foot behind the accelerator pedal and pull it back and revs would return to correct idle. I thought it was a sticking throttle cable but it turned out that it was slightly out of adjustment and not allowing the butterfly valve in the throttle body to full close. Slackened the cable off slightly so the butterfly closed fully and everything was alright.
