Hi, I am 18 years old and always been fairly interested in cars, however I know nothing about any car.
Obviously light beginner maintenance but only as far as for example checking oil haha.
I’m looking to get into cars as a hobby, project car etc, and was wondering if a mini would be a good start? What quality mini should I buy as a complete beginner and should I attempt a mini rebuild? I have a Haynes manual too haha, just wondering if I’m way over my head that is all, cheers. ?

15 to 25 years ago I'd have unreservedly said yes to choosing a Min as your first car. All the reasons stand true, but they're just that much rarer and more expensive.

Join your local Mini club and talk to them. They like talking about Minis and will set you on your way.

That's great advice from Greenwheels.

Like anything that has demand Minis attract people that are more interest in taking money than anything else, experience helps to spot when things aren't right. All Minis are knocking on and will need TLC to keep 'em on the road that equates to added costs some of which can be avoided if you have a support network for cadging tools etc.

Bottom line is you can easily pay less for other cars that will need less time & expense on maintenance to give you more & cheaper motoring.

A garage to keep it in and work on would be really useful and deep pockets. I'm a tad older and had zero knowledge about cars until I bought a mini 2 years ago, but the thrill of finding out how it all works and getting it running properly and fixing problems you can't put a price on.
