Considering Ram Air For My Stage 3/hif44

Best Answer postve , 11 March 2020 - 07:42 PM

Don't think that you can go wrong with the filter/velocity stack assembly from MED.  Induction noise is a bit loud but I like it.

I just ordered the stub stack from MED today - first step into the void..

I have recently finished my build and getting a solid 85 hp and tons of torque on a Calver stage 3/hif44/bp255 setup.

Next steps, considering a modified ram air set up as follows and looking for those who have experienced the same and if value is there?

Similar to the following.

Pointless. Ducting air to the carb in general is good but the filter ain’t going to help.

Humm, so if I was to take the dive dump the filter - will ponder this one and at the end of the day will simply go with the stub stack I have been waiting forever for from retrominis - thx again Nick

That type of filter is fine for a turbo but for an NA car using the words ram air is totally incorrect. It is just a colder air inlet. Which you have an your standard air filter any way.

second time I have posted this this week. (Maybe not on here though)

Thx Nick and saw this once before and I would fit into number 5. That being said, and all do respect to Keith, not all of us have access to a rolling road and I don't agree you have to have one to do the little mini justice. I would agree that one cannot beat a rolling road for 100% accuracy or damn near close to it for tuning but, in the absence of the same, I would challenge that based on many over here who have produced some damn good candidates of non-rolling road tuners that can hold their own with the same - I would like to put mine with that lot as well.

I am sure to have ridicule heaped on me I am sure but quite happy to buck the trend considering I simply have no alternative anyways.

If you choose to go your own path, then may i suggest a trusty wide band AFR gauge. - something like an innovate item ( but any using a good quality bosch sensor)

I have an MGB with injection and data logging. It has a filter behind the grill leading directly to the inlet plenum.I removed the filter and logged the MAP.Up to 70mph there was no increase in MAP value. With lots of development and higher speeds(think older F1cars) it might work.Just my experience, yours may differ.Steve..

I am going to test Keith's results between a cone/pancake filter in a few weeks as picked up the latter from a friend who lives in Portugal - he is shipping it this week.

Interesting what my results will yield.Going to message Keith as well with results and get his feedback as well
