A short while back it was my 40th wedding anniversary, so we had a big party in our garden with a marquee (I got told off for calling it a 'tent'), a hog roast, a disco, lots of booze, etc.

So I went to get a sum of cash from my bank who wanted to know why I wished to withdraw just short of £3000. Apparently they have to ask so that we 'old people' don't get scammed, which is fair enough I suppose. I said that I wanted it for 'alcohol and partying'. The young lady in the bank laughed and asked what I really wanted it for. I replied with the same answer and she said "Do you really want me to put that down on the form"? 

I explained and she said that it was the first time anyone had given that answer. My reply was that some people must lead very sheltered lives.

The party was a huge success. I bought my wife a ruby and diamond ring and she bought me, wait for it...... A Hornby Dublo Flying Scotsman Train Set!!! I am now collecting more track, locomotives and rolling stock to build a model railway. I got 33 waggons at a local auction last Saturday.

Alcohol and partying sounds like a great way to spend money!

 

When I was a student I got out a large sum of money to pay for some flights to London. It happened to be on the same day as the countries biggest horse race, so I got grilled to make sure I wasn't spending it on gambling!

I always have some fun with that question at the bank, depending how they phrase it. Sometimes they try to do it casually.... "Buying anything nice?" to which I reply a flat "No". Which means they have to ask it another way. But generally I just say it's to fuel my lifestyle of excess, much like your honest response Cooperman!

 

Was it George Best who said he spent all his money on booze, women and partying, and the rest he just wasted?

It's good that people are being asked, unfortunately so many scams are electronic that cash based ones are a thing of the past now.

Hang on a minute, lads. I've got a great idea - why don't you hire one of those big tents for your garden and invite us all to a party!!!! £10 per head, body goes in free.

No, twin-rail. I'm going to get on with building it with the help of my 10-year-old Grandson and my friend's son who is also 10. My available space is 12ft x 12ft, so I can get a 10ft 6in x 6ft 6in with a 4ft x 3ft 6in L-shaped piece. I am looking to buy a big load of used track shortly.

I've also got one Mini resto to complete this Spring and a 998 Mayfiar (Mk.1 Cooper look-alike) to fully restore for my 25-year-old Grandson.

I really do never seem to stop.

This month I have to work with my syndicate partners on the annual inspection of our Ka6 glider. Then there is some work to be done on another glider I part-own.

My 1990 Cooper road-rally car is almost completed and I just need to get it up and running, then MoT it and enjoy it. The '64 'S' has a small electrical problem and I want to fit the correct 120 mph speedo which I now have. Then my Grandson's 1986 998 Mayfair restoration can begin. Lots of lovely welding.

I bought a job lot of model railway wagons last weekend and once I get my garden rearranged to make space in one of my offices, I can start on the model railway.

The only possible problem is that my lovely wife has a lung condition, so we are going to have to be careful with the COVID-19 situation and may have to self-isolate for a few weeks until the situation stabilises. That might put everything on hold, but we'll do what we have to. I can't risk her catching it.

Work isolated me last week as they deam me a "high risk employee" due to being diabetic.

I asked if it was really necessary considering that I have never called in work sick in three years of working there and my diabetes is well under control. They then proceeded to pull up my last (and only) "return to work" document that we have to fill in for any time taken off over three days that isn't holiday.

Reason for absence: Put conrod through side of block while driving through Mongolia.

Measures to be taken to prevent absenteeism (if any). Rebuild engine before setting of next time.

HR was not amused. My manager found it funny at the time.
