I read, that the Bahrain GP is to be run "behind closed doors".

For one who can remember the likes of Rindt, McLaren and Rodrigues, drifting a car through corners on the throttle, leaning over a motorway bridge and watching the passing traffic is more interesting than a modern procession of F1 cars.

Well this is going to become more common as the CoronaVirus spreads. It will affect all major sporting events with large crowds.

if focusing just on the numbers of deaths, you really need to take into account that the seasonal flu virus is endemic in most populations, whereas coronavirus is not.

...yet

The fatality rate and rate of infection are far worse for Coronavirus though, which is why there is so much worry.

The fatality rate of seasonal flu is around 0.1%, many people get it.

Coronavirus is averaging 3%, elderly people with Coronavirus is around 15%, thats mega.

Given the world's reaction to Covid-19 lately regardless of how bad it is or may turn out to be. We're lucky to be getting a Bahrain GP at all with so many large gathering events already being cancelled worldwide.

Speaking from a personal point of view, my wife is 72 years old and suffers from a serious lung complaint (COPD). She has only recently come home after 10 days in hospital with an infection and her breathing is still very laboured.

If she contracted COVID-19 I hate to think what the outcome would be.

Thus we are self-isolating and not going anywhere near anyone who could be a possible source of infection. She only has to get unlucky one time with this.

So no, the response so far is correct and it is a serious threat to a lot of people.

I have to say that I’m in agreement with Cooperman on this one. Although I’m just 48, I have a number of auto immune diseases including type 1 diabetes which I’ve had since I was a child, and on 30th April I’m booked in for a quadruple heart bypass. I work in a school and have concerns that younger fitter people are taking their own health for granted and putting others more vulnerable people at risk. I witnessed a whole family coughing their way around Iceland at the weekend spraying their germs about as they went with no effort to cover their mouths. It was at this point I really started to think about isolating myself as much as possible from crowded places. Hopefully things have been blown out of proportion by the media but I for one won’t be taking any chances in case we turn into an Italy.

And yes the GP has become a bit boring. Although I have watched the F1 series on Netflix which is a good watch.

During the last "Foot & Mouth" outbreak, the footbath at farm gates was Citric acid,  (Lemon Juice)

If it killed that virus, it ought to kill this one, and a face mask soaked in a virus killer should be more effective than a dry one.

That's interesting, vitamin C is known to kill all microbes and viruses.  I wonder why the powers that be aren't advising us to use it.  It's easy to supplement with using ascorbic acid, a few grams of that every night does you the world of good.
