The £70 850 motor is still going as well as an 850 can, no problems since I fitted a good 998 head using a Victor Reinz head gasket (the head only cost £20 with new valves already fitted) and 3000 faultless miles so far this year.
I've got an 1100 engine in bits waiting in the wings, however if it ain't broke don't try and fix it - So the 850 is staying put until it dies. This may take a while...
On the cosmetic side the 41 year old Zircon blue metallic paintwork was looking ropey after we'd replaced both sills and I'd decided to attack any evidence of surface rust with a rotary wire brush.
After being quoted £2k for a full respray we had some paint mixed in a custom shade to match the aged hue which will be applied in the spring.
Mechanically a pair of Minispares evo cones are next on the list to sort the bouncy rear end. They will compliment the red dot front cones and kyb silver shocks all round.
Finally you'll notice in the photo that the Moo has a new playmate. MGB GT in black with shiny wire wheels, a proper poor man's Aston.
Trouble is I'm even poorer as the engine lasted about 15 miles before I had to buy a replacement motor which is in process of being fitted, plus light welding required.
Cars! It never ends!
