Let me explain my situation. I have two kids, and the youngest really has the passion for the Mini. He likes to play in it all the time. With the indicators, the wipers, the heater fan, pretending to drive. That's fun and all, but now that the engine is in the car I will not let him play with the keys in the car in fear that he starts it.

 

I thought about disconnecting the starter wire each time but it would be time consuming. So my question is, is there some sort of switch I could put on the starter wire? That would be much easier to pop the bonnet, turn the switch, and there you go. Could be some sort of anti-theft device too.

 

And no, not letting him play is not an option

I fitted one of these interrupting the feed to the coil I fitted it to the lower shelf of the dash with the switch pointing downwards as a anti theft device.

1.  Remove the battery

There are many isolator switches designed to work on heavy cables.

Personally I would look to fit something to the battery earth cable in the boot.:

The white and red wire! You're right, it makes sense, the power will not be triggered to the other side of the solenoid.

 

Thanks for actually reading my question! I do not want to disconnect the battery like others suggested, or deny access to the Mini. He's already building childhood memories with that car.

Rig a switch in the white/red wire on the solenoid, fit it in a place you can get to easily but that means your son camt get to it (I know it isn't easy in a mini though)

I have a battery kill switch in the boot and just kill all the power every time I park overnight.

Before I did this the GPS fell off the windscreen and turned on the headlights...
