Well looks like I was wrong about the commercials being the same as the cars in this regard, sorry for providing the wrong information.

 

This 1970 brochure shows the wipers in the later arrangement on the cars and in this 1980 brochure the wipers on the commercials are the same as the mk1s.  Strange that BL did that.  So it seems the wipers on my van are wrong.  I'm always learning something new on this forum.

Logic would suggest holes 1 and 3 or 2 and 4 for lhd and rhd. Just weird it's the 2 centres.
I would guess they were looking for improvements so wherever they are positioned on MPIs should in theory be the best location for screen clearance...

I imagine they just used whatever wiper racks were in the parts bin at the time
