I've wondered before if one of these would fit in place of the original heater

https://www.ebay.co....m4383.l4275.c10

You could have air con then but unlike Japan spec, still keep the open dash shelf.

You'd need a compressor, condenser etc but I bet it wouldn't be impossible.

Hi Al, it probably will work, but then you have no demist, which is kind of a number one reason to have a heater really on those cars :)

True. If it were just bolted under there as is.

They do a version without the directable front vents, just two outlets. I suppose you could rig something up for it to sit into. Like a custom center consol that has connections for the de-mist hoses on the sides and eyeball vents to the front.

yes exactly. Altought I'm not a big fan of central consoles. I like the fact the mini has such a simplistic design to it. but it's just me.

Butchers hook?my RHD car has a random hook shaped thing wrapped around the heater pipe under the dash.It has never been connected to anything whilst I have had the car but is not easily removed so I left it.Do you know what it does?Steve..

Actually, the hooks are the red things on the bulkhead that are used as support for the original matrix. if it's welded, I'll keep it in place. if it's bolted, well, I might give it a try. right now, I don't know.

They are welded I seem to recall. Sorry.
You could put a small shelf there to put your fresh tree... ? Or not...

Bit of black paint should hide them. ?

I have one of these fitted, great little bit of kit.

To make the switch look more vintage/original you can use a Lucas rheostat switch and the original switch “cap/cover”
This way you have adjustable fan speed and an original look.
I used this...

I got it from a traditionnal mini-shop in UK. On my version there was not rivetted plates. just pipes coming straight from the box.

indeed, it was my original plan to make use of the pull valve button. Note I an still do something like that. the problem is mine is all glued-and-sealed around the cable. so it's still some work but, why not.

the rheostat part however, I think it's useless:

- the car makes so much noise that the fan speed does not make much a difference

- I use it for demist, and demist means full-throttle  :proud:

I tried and you can actually still find the video with the fan and engine on on my instagram story. I think.

I prefer the original look but with modern functionality, and the switches functionality works very well.
The option to have the fan run at varying speeds/quieter is always an added bonus imo and with it being such an easy upgrade why wouldn’t you?

You are correct though, if your car is extra noisy or the heaters only use is for demisting it wouldn’t make much difference. Just another option for anyone reading

Thanks.
