Guys, there was a recent thread on Gearboxes, asking about pros and cons between 2 different types.

I'm awfully sorry and embarrassed that in an attempt to clean up a double post of mine, I deleted the thread.

Sorry for that.

I'm seeing if we can get it back.

speaking of gearboxes did you see MED's video on putting bigger bolts and studs in between the block and gearbox? I didn't know this was a thing/problem that needed solving.

Good for high revving engines, not common on boosted engines.

This type of conversion was mentioned in Vizard's early book 'How to Modify your Mini'.

I've never found the standard arrangement an issue and speaking over the years with a few local guys, including racers, they too just use the standard 1/4" screws and studs.

I've been running 5/16" bolts in the block / gearbox flange for 30 years, having said that I never really had problems with the 1/4" bolts in my previous engines although they were lower power output.
5/16" bolts with a 1/2" a/f head are pretty awkward to tighten and remove.
On my last rebuild I used the 5/16" MED bolt and gasket set. Easier to install the cap head bolts but still more fiddly than 1/4 bolts.
