hi all,

I am recently getting my mini back on the road, it's been off the road more than on in the last 10 years.

I would like your opinion, should re-fit the bonnet stripes? or fit a door number?

I'm happy how it is, but have always fitted the stripes so they seem missing.

what you thinking?

Looks like a lovely clean car!

Not keen on door numbers unless the car needs them, and stripes might overpower the look.

Have you thought about bonnet straps instead?

I'm with RustyAutoCityE on this, but then I would be.

White bonnet stripes with a white roof almost work, but, in black, IMO, they overwhelm the balance and detract from the look of the car.

Ultimately, it's the owner's choice to make.

I have the stripes on my '91 Cooper and I think it suits them but that's because it came with them and is 'of it's time'. Your car looks perfect without, any other embellishments would detract from it's lovely clean lines and, in my opinion, is the perfect colour combination.

Leave as is.

Bonnet stripes are a personal choice. They seem to suit some colour cars more than others. In fact I just removed them from my black 1990 car and fitted a Mk.1 grille/surround.

Door numbers just scream "Boy Racer". Fine if you are actually competing on a rally, but remove tham after the event or cover them over. Real competitors will never have door numbers unless actually competing.

How about some black and silver chequered tape on the rocker cover.  Back in the early 60s, it was claimed to give another 5 bhp !!!!!

To be serious, a set of lights across the grill would look good and be much more use, and much more easily removed, than white stripes up the bonnet.

With all this wet weather, if you want another useful "look good" , a pair of 'spats' below the front bumper, a` la Paddy Hopkirk's Monty winner, have an "I mean business" look.`

It looks perfect as it is. Give yourself time to get used to it, easier to add 'em later than take 'em off - I'd go for black if you do decide on having stripes.

I've had it 23 years, it was my 16th birthday present from my parents. me and my father spent 1 year welding new floors, etc. it's been various colours until now. I've finally got it how I want it. I will give it time but I'm sure I will leave it, certainly for a while anyway.

I will post a pic of it a couple of months ago with bonnet stripes before paint, etc.

The stripes in the old photo look like the black stripes under a trendy cricketer's eyes.

Definately leave them off, it looks much better without them and to me door numbers are a big no no on any car unless its being used for competition.

Leave them off it looks really smart and tidy with a nice paint job. I feel the stripes are a distraction and stop you looking at the car as a whole, and I'm told the stripes don't make it go faster!!

you guys are absolutely correct, nothing else is required. I was looking forward to getting out and about in it but might as well hold off untill we're not on lockdown now.
