Screws For Heater Housing

Best Answer Floyd kraemer , 27 March 2020 - 09:26 PM

Hi Alasdair

When I rebuilt my heater I bought some stainless screws from Screwfix (see photos).

I can't remember how many of each size I needed, but these packs of 100 worked well and didn't cost much (with lots left over).

So a pack of No8 x 1/2" and No6 x 1/2" pan-head pozi-drive self tapping stainless screws. I seem to remember I needed to cut some of them a bit shorter with a hacksaw, but being stainless there was no chance of rust from the cut end. Remember to use some molybdenum grease.

Looks nice when done too!!

I also used "wrinkle" paint for the front panel to give it the right texture.

Cooper 1990 1275 Carb

Hello

Quick question: does anyone know what size/type the screws are for the heater housing?

I have the top heater in this picture:

I am missing a few (10) screws and don't have my verneer calipers to measure them.

Any ideas what size they are?

Thanks

Alasdair

Hi Floyd, that’s great, thanks for getting back to me.

Your heater looks a lot nicer than mine!

Do you also know what size the 2 screws are which go into the dash, to hold the heater up? These screws are missing from my car... m6/7 maybe?

Thanks a lot

Alasdair

Hi Alasdair

The two front screws are No10 x 7/8" pan-head pozi-drive self tappers. These go into a couple of spire nuts which should already be in the lower dash rail.

I have added a photo of my heater "before" the renovation and also the spire nuts in the dash. Maybe like yours... but it spruced up well.

They won't be metric ... only a couple of brake fittings on some later cars.

Thanks a lot, I need to get used to this non-metric system!

Floyd- Yes I think you're right about needing to cut some. I put a screw in below the flap and it prevented the flap from moving position- so I'll need a hacksaw!

thanks again

Alasdair
