As Barnyard said - use the rocker cover studs, one bracket on each.

As an aside - Unusual mod to the clutch cover by the timing hole on that engine pictured in the original post.

Oh come on.............

Remove the sparking plugs to avoid damage and cover the holes.

Tie a bit of rope round the water pump/alternator mount............pass it behind the thermostat/top hose.....................bring it in front of the head to about the center front head stud............then round the head by the  heater tap and.pass it through the engine stabaliser bracket with both bolts in place.........and tie it off to the.clutch actuating arm.

Hook it from this rope near the center front stud.

That's how we lift on the in-line A-Series, sometimes with the gearbox .. most cars came with the brackets!

Hi with respect to most of the suggestions this still doesn't give me a clear way of installing the engine, again I really don't want to remove any head nuts and I do appreciate all comments.

Thanks in anticipation

have you asked the engine builder what his preferred method is ?  presumably he'll have a fitted a few in his career

I would say that is more of a bracket for shifting it about the workshop and into transport rather than installing it in a Mini.

That was my thinking as well, but it still seems like a bad idea. The manifold studs are only short and you´re not lifting from something in line with the centre of mass, as others have said lifting like that it would cause the whole lot to pivot putting strains on the parts not meant to bear a lateral, rotating, load like that.

I worry about undoing head studs after torquing as well.. I think I'm going for the rocker shaft ones though I always thought that they didn't look man enough

It ain’t an issue. You will be backing them all off to retorque anyway.

Hi all got hold of Keith Calver the other day, his response was use the rocker mountings with the brackets I've got, that's how he has always installed an engine.

Thank you for all the comments gents  :proud:

If that's OK to use the rocker bolts you won't have to undo the nuts at all as there will be enough thread to put another nut on.. winner!
