Maybe consider putting bigger things on wheels so they can be moved around or even outside.

 

With your racking would it also be possible to install that end on to a wall, with the middle sections on wheels so that that can be stacked flat against each other, then you only need allow space for one walk way between them. You'll want good wheels and need a first class floor to make it work though.

A problem I have at the moment is the council tips are shut, so my garage is also storing unwanted old carpet etc from our house renovations.

We have put a tarp down and made a pile of rubbish to go in a few weeks.
