If you touch the clutch at all, BE SURE to have it dynamically balanced before fitting. Ask me how I know?

I have just finished a similar rebuild and threw in a new clutch and lightened flywheel from MED. I highly recommend it.

rude question but... how much was the flwheel?

Hope on their site. I bought a lightened clutch assembly from MED as well and is waiting to go on currently. They do some seriously top notch stuff and theirs comes fully balanced.

On the clutch, I stalled a new, uprated one some time ago. Well under 10k miles on it. Say 6k. Well the springs that are used to damper the clutch, on the clutch hub shattered and then jammed my starter. Needless to say, I have no idea how long it was like that and the subsequent unbalance (and the fact that I didnt have the assembly balanced when I changed it) shook my poor car to the point of a cracked bulkhead engine steady bracket AND a crack in the front subframe where the lower engine attaches. All the while I just got used to the car...thinking it was just how the A-series was.

I had rebuilt the motor at the same time as the clutch. Brand new crank, bored, special pistons, cam, all bearing and had it all fully blueprinted and balanced. Even went with the Cooper S, 2-piece damper, balanced as well. My motor should be one of the smoothest motor out there. Now that I know what the issue was (which was such an oversight on my part), I am VERY excited to get this back together and feel the difference.

Point is, you have to really take your time and do things right and by the book.

It's listed on their website. The ST1 comes balanced with the clutch installed onto the flywheel, all ready for installation.
