Spi Engine Cuts Out Randomly

Best Answer Jilksy , 14 April 2020 - 12:35 PM

The fuel filter and inertia switch are now changed and it seems to have done the trick so a big thank you to all. In my quest to fix the problem I also changed the plugs and plug leads. when the old plugs came out one of them was definately not correct as it had half the thread length as the rest and so was operating in a little tunnel so the wee thing is now running much more sweetly.

I have removed the old fuel filter and yes it was a pain so I have had to order an new pipe from the tank and adaptor along with the filter and a new inertia switch just in case. I will report on the results when I receive the parts, although the current unpleasantness seems to have slowed down the parts pipeline. thanks again. :D

Also ECU automatically resets if you disconnect battery and leave for an hour or so.  Resets to original factory settings and then when you next start, relearns.  :highfive:

This is not true. You need a diagnostic unit to reset the ECU which is why that functionality was built into Testbook and others

Your not resetting the ECU.  The ECU goes back to ZERO and then learns as if its running a new engine, if that makes sense?

Is absolutely true, if you disconnect battery and leave a while then reconnect will absolutely!!!!  Done it myself and by specialist Mini garage, get your info right I'm afraid matey  :highfive:

ECU factory setting, when you dis connect the re connect the battery, the ECU sets up as if the engine has never been run, it then re learns, resets, and adjusts running as it then gets the sensor readings, if that makes sense O_O

And you have verified this by what method?

Done after getting air leak in breather hose by me and by Mini Garage after changing steering wheel, also two weeks ago when Mini Garage fitted KN Filter and LCB.  On all occasions the battery was dis connected, then as I then drove Mini, the car ran better and better as ECU re learned the new parameters.

Weather the ECU was reset or not surly the car would run better as the ECU learns the new parameters after any repair or modification.

Just out of curiosity,is the Mini ECU capable of learning with only a narrowband lambda and no knock sensor?Steve..
