Thats the heater motor.

Cheers man. For example in my heater box unit, the motor does not come out as much.

I think there is difference between the metal and the later plastic heaterunits.

By the way Alex, last night have been seeing your restoration, although I have not finished it yet because there are 50 pages. It's one of the best jobs I have seen considering that the car was in a sorry state with rust everywhere.

It has been a "titanic" job with a spectacular result. Congratulations!!
