Hi

Need to decide what 12 " wheels to put on the mini.

See link

http://www.theminifo...he-forum-hello/

Ads has had some input. (thanks )

However I need to decide between the 3 sizes.

looks wise I prefer the 6" wide but will this tramline like the 13x7 I currently have.

is 5.5 the best compromise?

10" is not an option  :-)

thoughts please.

will be looking at a wheel with a dish - mini lite design  any companies to avoid? JBW seems to have the most wheels in stock - but I believe the quality is often lacking.

Will probably fit rave arches or WP ones depending on what width I decide upon.

thanks in advance

If you still have the sportspack arches on the car and want to keep those then i'd go for 6 as it will fill them out (as much as the original sportspack alloys anyway).  5 will look too skinny unless you start to use spacers or change the arches down to the std plastic or group 2 arches. As for tramlining, I can't answer, hopefully someone here more knowledgable than me can tell you   If you change them to the WP ones, go for 6's, you'll be happier with the look. I bought my 5X12s from Huddersfield Spares with Yoko A539s for a reasonable cost and quick delivery so maybe worth checking them out if you're looking for places to buy.

I have 6*12 supalites from now. Can't fault them personally. Been on a year now and just like new. Didn't like the ones from huddersfield because of the shape

You won't notice much difference in driving between the 5" or 6" width wheels so long as they have the same datum offset. The tyre width will still be a 165 section so the tread width on the road is the same, just with the tyre centre line moved out 1/2" on each side with the 6".

It won't suffer from 'tramlining' as a 13" wheel does due to the sidewall depth being greater and thus more 'flexible'.

Ok thanks all for the info.

Any performance downsides of running the 6x12 vs the other sizes.

so hudersfeild have some that have the et03 offset called superlight

JBW have a superlight that has a 0 offset

JBW have a minilight that has a -7 offset.

the JBW minilight will be the widest when on the car vs the hudersfeild ones which will protrude the least.

they all kind of look much of a much-ness. I certainly cant tell a huge difference between them.

Any advice or recommendations  trying to get a reasonable compromise of form and function.

Glad they wont tramline the 13" ones were crazy for that.

Remember that thesteering geometry is designed for a 3.5" wheel running 145 section tyres.
The more the centre line of the tyre moves out from the nominal centre line the more the scrub radius is effected and this degrades the steering geometry.
It's not a major problem, but it needs to be taken into account.

Thanks Cooper man. the steering on the current set up using 13x7 was terrible, so I hope that this will be slightly better.

by going for the ET03 offset wheels the effect of this will be kept as low as possible I hope.

I think I have convinced myself to go down this route. Although not perfect should be a reasonable trade off.

Now all I need to decide is what arches to run.....

It's a personal thing really, but for myself if I can't run without extensions, which I do prefer to do, I like the Group 2 extensions which carry the chrome trim over the wheel arches. I know it can be difficult to fit this trim, but with care it is OK.

Then you come to the decision as to whether to paint the arch-extensions in body colour or a different colour. My son had a white 970 Cooper 'S' which had a black roof and with black G'p 2 extensions it looked great.

mine are the jbw 6*12 minilights with the -7 offset, not supalights as i said earlier. i have group 4 arches from huddersfield and the wheels just stick out from under them

Thanks again all.

There are a few sets of WP arches on the web - I like them or the rave ones. the WP ones are 2 1/4 inch and the raves are 2.5"

because the mini has so many panels re-welded on it im not sure how much give will be in the fiberglass WP ones to deal with the distortion.

group 2 are nice also but I find the group 4 a little too wide for my taste.

It all depends what will cover the wheels and how much stick out you can get through the motor with. Being 10mm different on the offset I think you should be ok with w&p or group 2
