Now I'm not the first on here to attempt it, as I am aware of at least two other TMF members who have done it, but last year my friend Whitney and I attempted the Mongol Rally in a Mini. In the process, we very hastily rebuilt my 86 city that had been sitting for over 10 years.

We took a lot of pictures and videos during the trip, so to make it easier to share, I have edited them together into a film.

Its not a masterpiece as it was shot entirely on mobile phones and a knockoff go pro but if anyone wants to kill an hour 20 minutes here is the film from our trip.

Enjoy

Quite the adventure! I think you guys did well with the repairs on the fly, especially towards the end. Hope the car made it back in one piece and is going to get back up and running soon.

I thought the rules of the Mongol rally were that you had to leave your car in Mongolia when you finished and they sold/gave them to the locals......or has that changed? Mate of mine did it with his son in a Fiat Panda back in the mid noughties.

Quite the opposite now. Since about 2016 Mongolia doesn't allow you to leave your vehicle there so the rally organisers moved the finishing line to Ulan-Ude in Russia.

You have to pay a £1200 deposit which when you get to the finishing line you can either forfeit so your car is disposed of or use it to get the car shipped back to Estonia where you can pick it up from.

I had to pay a lot to ship the mini home but it was cheaper than the fines from Mongolian customs. As I shipped my car home myself I did get my deposit back.

Awesome trip Mike, Do you have a build thread for the micra build? And keep us posted about your Europe trip when you go.

I watched your YouTube film. Amazing stuff, proper adventure. I used to spend time in the former Soviet Union often travelling between cities by car, usually Ladas. The distances are vast and if something goes wrong with the car you either fix it or you're stuffed. Your road side fixes were genius.

Epic! Fascinating to see the size of Russia & Mongolia, what an experience.
