Sheared Bolt Advice Please!

Best Answer MatMini , 09 May 2020 - 08:52 AM

Upadte folks-

Got round to sorting the adjuster pulley bolt, & unfortunately the MG/Rover part doesn't fit (I dare say it would if you get it machined)

But the original Mini part I sourced on eBay fitted fine, like for like.

See attached pic of the MG/Rover part WAM3718

Also fitted a new drivers window regulator while I was at it so all up & running.

So it looks like second hand is the only way to go if your daft like me & shear the bolt, unless you get one made/modified.

Cheers for all the advice.

Hi Folks

After a bit of advice please-
Went to adjust the fan belt on my 2001 Cooper (last of the line 1.3 injection) & stupidly sheared off the bolt that holds the adjuster pully on.
Done some searches & the part number is PQU100230, but I cant find one out there anywhere!
Does anyone know if one from a Rover or MG will fit, looks similar, part number is WAM3718
Nut thats sheared is on this diagram (found from a previous post)

Thanks in advance!

Mat

You're going to have to be lucky on the second hand market, i'm afraid.

Thanks, Mat.

I've no intention of removing mine but you made me go and put some penetrating oil on it, anyway.

Expect it wouldn't be too hard to engineer a solution. Can you strip it down to see exactly what's broken?

They show up on Ebay on occasion, but usually the complete mechanism. If you get on from ebay make sure the mechanism is free and not a rusted mess.

You might try Somerford:

It says call to check, it may be easier to email. If that is the right part.

Cut or grind or file away all of the snapped thread and maybe a bit more.  Take a setscrew and thin down the head by cutting grinding or filing, and braze the two together.

Cheers for the feedback folks.

So annoyed at myself!

& who'd have thought it would be impossible to source a bolt for a 2001 car!

Hopefully the Rover 200 item will do the job, I'll let you know if it does!

Called Somerford, nowt doing unfortunately.

The chap said if they we're out there he'd have them in stock, so they aint out there!

Sourced this part from a company called Rimmer Bros, fingers crossed!

If that doesn't work I'll take your advice SMM & try my luck on eBay.

Thanks again folks, very helpful

(when I get it moving I'll chuck a few photos up)

Hopefully that Rover item will work. I'm certain that Rover would tried to use as many existing parts as possible when they did the MPi Minis, and would have avoided Mini-specific hardware as far as possible. Stuff like the throttle body for example came from the MG-F. (which is why the 52mm metal replacement throttle body was so readily available for the MPi - because it was the same application as for more numerous MG-F's.)

Another option here would be to do a round of the breaker's yard. You're not likely to find one from a Rover Mini of course, but loads and loads of other cars use a similar type of bolt on the belt drives. I'd say, you'd have a good chance of getting lucky.

I'd grind the male threaded part flat to the shoulder then drill & tap for "gender reassignment". You can see from Tmsmini's excellent photos there's plenty of room to beef  up a screw in replacement stud with weld that would fit in the slot on the bracket.

...perhaps it'd be even better to forgo the tapping and go for an interference fit with a cut off bolt. (+weld)

Hi Folks

MG/Rover part turned up today, but also seen this on eBay, do you think the eBay item will be worth getting as well for 15 quid?
