No offence intended, but if Swiftune have gone to the trouble of designing and manufacturing their own bracket it's not fair to rip off what they're doing, even accepting they're £50/pr. Design something of your own (maybe similar) and be proud of what you've done :)

Would that pass an MOT?

Potentially a failure if deemed to have sharp edges.

Circa £30 for a similar copy on ebay if that's any use? I've been considering them myself. They appear to be slightly shorter.

MED do a similar mirror mount in alloy, cheaper than Swiftune too.

This. It’s only till you design, r&d your own work you fully realise why the cost of products are what they are, despite the raw material, sheet cost.

A bit cheaper - but not much.  I'd expect the Swiftune ones are aluminium too.

Just looking at the photos, I can see obvious differences both in design and placement.  I'd suspect Swiftune's offering has R&D involved which has led to why it is how it is, whereas the 'copy' part is probably based on 'that looks about the same'. That's what you pay for.  Otherwise you get something that doesn't quite work as you expected and you wonder why you can't adjust the mirrors to get a good rearward view or see out of them when your mk1 slidey windows are opened just enough to get some airflow......
