Not all mini owners are clued up, I can see mini spares point they don’t want to lose business to another company but the cheap wheel bearings are simply awful I only sell timken bearings as I’ve seen first hand what the cheap bearings are like! This is the problem with the aftermarket the stuff is so cheap in comparison to the “ genuine “ parts a new owner of a classic mini with no experience in the mini world will see the price difference and more than likely buy the cheaper product it’s a no brainer on the face of it, my hat in the ring

I drove a 74 Clubman everyday from 1997 until 2006, 60k miles in that time, apart from routine servicing, tyres, brake shoes, etc never needed to go near a wheel bearing, there must be some real poor quality stuff out there to only be getting a few thousand miles from a wheel bearing.

The trouble in my eyes is that you expect a "fit for purpose" item especially from a marque supplier.I am advancing in years and once upon a time higher price equalled higher quality;increasingly higher price is just that-higher price. Also we are fitting parts to ancient assemblies which may have suffered indifferent rebuilds in the past so success cannot be guaranteed.Increasingly people with wildly differing skill sets embark on major rebuilds(no bad thing)but research seems to be an obscene activity and practical skills have not been built up through example or experience gained by keeping your crappy daily driver going.
Sorry for a jaded older persons view(not all older persons are like me,thankfully),Steve

So basically what suppliers are saying is that they know the cheap bearings are sh$# and below standard/not fit for use etc but are selling them because others are and don't want to loose business, well let's see what happens when somebody takes them to court with a major claim after a bearing collapses/seizes up causing a massive off.
This sort of thing really needs sorting out, we have cr$# bearings, brake master cylinders ( been there had one of them and listed as genuine ) rubber parts, the list seems to be getting longer
