I've found someone France.

Which is lucky because I live in France.

None going in England though.

Anyone tried Loctite 8103 (no its not glue!!) moly grease MOs2- the black stuff - in their bearings?

The local chap here put some in the bearings on the VW camper recently and swears by the stuff.

I think the reason my Timken failed after just 24,000 miles (before actually!) was the pitiful amount of red grease the factory put on. I've used more wasabi than that!

One side smelt awful!!

every set of timken bearings i've bought only have a protective coating of light oil on them

cleaning them and greasing them is the first thing you should do before you fit them  >_<

Whilst 'red rubber grease' is indeed usually red, there are lots of other greases that are red too - never take the colour as an indication as to what its for!

I once had some Silkolene grease that was both red and sparkly (I don't know if the 'glitter' had any functional property).

They even list the 'red iridescent colour' as a benefit  :D  :D

Yes, ive had several bering greases in red, such as some synthetic types.

by the way, Steveston Motor Company, a local mini specialist with many popular you tube videos on their work, suggests to not use moly type grease for any roller or ball bearing applications because it is too slippery and the bearings can just slide and not turn or roll properly. Moly is better for bushing and other non rolling type situations. Only recommend use bearing specific type grease. Should also be more water resistant than moly, which is commonly used inside CV boots.

Here's the relevant video:

Just to make the colours more confusing, I have had Blue Rubber Grease.

As Graeme mentioned, don't go off the colour for it's use.

No. Dont use moly grease in a bearing. It makes the rollers slide instead of roll and it ll ruin it in no time. It's easy enough to find SKF wheel bearing grease in France. Auto5 etc stock it.

Ok thanks all clear on the moly.

ill make sure I find some Timken or SKF for. Earnings.

Anyone else noticed the rather small amount of red stuff the factory put in?

Just had the rear hubs off first time since new twenty years ago.

One side smelt burnt and almost no grease in there.

I actually have some of this. It says ok for wheel bearings. Is it ok to use in your opinions?

It maybe OK, but it doesn't appear a name brand and seems cheap. On top that that, I note it's Multipurpose that can also be used in Wheel Bearings. Typically, these type of Greases have too low an Operating Temp for Mini Wheel Bearings, especially those with Disc Brakes.

I'd suggest a HT Wheel Bearing Grease, that can also be used for other purposes might be better.
