Front Drum Brake Wheel Bearings - Roller Type ?

Best Answer nicklouse , 11 May 2020 - 03:33 PM

they are listed for Disc cars as that is what they need.

people have been fitting the drum type and the disc type to either cars for years as they are exactly the same dimensionally.

The 'torque' of the Nut is dictated by the type of CV Joint used. So, what ever the manual says for Drum Braked Cars, (60 ft/lb) that's the Torque to use.

FYI, from late 1979 of, our local manufactured Big Wheel Mokes, with Disc and Drum Brakes had Timken Roller Bearings fitted at the factory, Front and Rear.

Sorry to dig this back up, i've got my taper front bearing now, but included with them is a metal spacer, where does this go ?

I't a drum braked car, so i have drive flange, normal drum wheel bearing spacer, seal, wheel bearing. hub, wheel bearing wheelbearing seal, plastic shield cv joint

Where in that lot does it go or does it replace the origional drum brake spacer or is it a disc brake cv joint spacer, asking that as it's a larger dimeter in the centre than the inside of the wheel bearings and i think the disc cv's are a larger diameter ?

Thanks

Craig

The spacer is matched to the bearings usually unless they have shoulders on their insides which butt together in which case I do not know.Steve..

I think the confusion might be because i'm fitting roller type bearings to drum braked car, i found this diagram on a moke forum via google, the spacer i am on about looks like item 7

Remember the wheel bearings go over the drive flange on a drum braked car rather on running on the cv joint.

The spacer is also used in number 6 in that image. The correct bearing sets all include two bearings and a spacer it does not matter if ball or taper roller.

Later bearing sets can be found without the spacer but have a shoulder on each bearing.

I found a diagram, so now i know where it goes, as you said nick, it goes between the bearings if they don't have shoulders on them as mine don't.

So number 5 in the bottom x-section

Thanks All

Interesting fact. The turbo Mini had taper outlets and ball bearing inners.
