Just fitted a front disk brake conversion to a 1974 mini.

Got everything in place. bled the brakes startting from the back to the front, did it the old fashoined two person Crack, push, close, release way. No more air coming out but the brake pedal still wont firm up (it feels like standing on a clutch pedal).

Can't see any leaks anywhere.

I just don't know where to look next.

Anyone got any ideas what could be causing this?

Does the pedal firm up if pumped rapidly?

If so hold the pressure on then crack the nipple, give it 10 pumps then hold down to tighten the nipple. Top up the reservoir then repeat on next corner.

Are the bleed nipples to the top on the calipers?

Calipers fitted correctly with bleed nipples at the top.

Ok, what to do now is to crack the unions from the master cylinder, then pump the pedal gently until you see brake fluid sweeping between the union and pipe.

Tighten these then go to the next pair of unions and do the same, then repeat for the front and rear circuits.

Thanks. I'll give this a go in the morning. Been at it since 8am this morning. Had enough today.

I'll report back

First thing you want to do, before you begin bleeding is to check that the fluid level hasn't moved from where you left it... if its moved look under the pedal assembly at the bulkhead for fluid Marks.

I think I've just discovered the problem.

Left the car overnight found a fairly large puddle of brake fluid on the rubber mat in the drivers footwell.

I'm guessing this means the master cylinder is the culprit.

Yes that's the issue! You need to replace it, I wouldnt even think about refurbishment
