I’ve just dropped a replacement engine in the mini and connected it all up, as soon as the fully charged battery is connected the no charge light on the dash comes up.

If I unplug the alternator the light goes out, does this suggest the alternator is dead (which did work fine before), or what else could it be?

Should add I’ve checked I’ve got good earths off the engine. With the alternator unplugged I assume because it becomes a open circuit it nothing will happen upon turning the key?

It should come on when the engine is stopped, does the oil pressure light come on until the engine starts and runs?

It’s on with just from connecting the battery, before putting keys in etc. No, nothing happens with the oil pressure light. Engine won’t turn or anything as is

You haven't connected something quite right. Double check that everything is connected, also that the engine earth is clean.

Have you done any other work?
