Alternator Wiring Question

I am creating my own basic loom for my A series engine and I would like to check if the brown/yellow wire going to the ignition lamp has any impact on the charging function of the alternator? So would the alternator still work fully if I were to just not wire anything to this terminal (3 on attached image).

 

Also another question, if I am to remove this wire this would leave me with two wires going from terminals 1 and 2 on the image, to the starter solenoid. What are 4, 5 and 6 on attached image there for?

 

I'm using the 59D distributor with electronic ignition conversion, standard coil,  the 70 amp alternator and i'm using a toggle switch and starter button instead of the keyed ignition switch and starter relay etc. Thought i'd mention incase this info is needed.

Yes, the ignition lamp is an important part of the alternator wiring.

I agree with the above - the current through this wire when you turn on the ignition ‘excites’ the alternator and kicks it into life. The ignition light goes out when the alternator is pushing out more than 12v.

 

i don’t know about 4,5 and 6 as I am not familiar with your alternator but my guess is they are alternatives to 1,2 and 3. 5 looks like it would go to the starter and 4 the ignition light?

Thanks. From the wiring diagram it seems to go from the alternator to the bulb and then to the voltage stabiliser. Can I just go through a bulb to ground? I want the circuit to be as simple as possible.

No it does not go to the voltage regulator. It stops at the lamp. The other side of the lamp has a white where that comes from/goes to many items. The regulator just being one of them.

That won't work.

The simplest is how it is done presently ie Alternator<------>lamp<----->Ignition live
No other combination will work.

 

And it must be a proper lamp - not an LED (well, not if you want to keep it simple)

Ok, so to get the alternator to work, what is the minimum requirements for this brown/yellow wire? I’m not concerned about the impact on the rest of the car as I’m doing my own loom and 90% of my car isn’t standard components. I’m only looking for a solution to get the alternator to work. Thanks for everyone’s help so far.

Thanks Graeme. That answers my question. By ignition live, that is the the terminal that receives 12V when ignition is on?

Just as previous posts,ign controlled live to one side of the insulated bulb then other side of the bulb to the little brown yellow terminal of the alternator.Good luck with your bespoke loom,some significant improvements in wiring and position of components could be achieved.Steve..
