Hi, I have just purchased a 1996 Mini Cooper (First mini project)and would love to change the wheels but struggling to visualise what it’s going to look like. Any pictures and descriptions would be great help.

I believe (others will confirm) 5" is the biggest you can go without having to fit arches

Strictly speaking, the standard offset 4.5" wheels are the widest thay can be fitted without wheel arch extensions. You can usually get away with 5" wide so long as they have standard datum ofset.

The author didn't mention anything about fitting with or without wheel arch extensions. He has a 1996 Cooper which is probably fitted with the Rover Special wheel arch extensions. Then 5" would just fit fine. See my former Studio 2 with Minilife wheels, now called "Wheel Minispares" ;-). You can find it here: http://minispares.co...021.aspx?200302

I have the same wheels fitted as in fokko's picture, they're wide enough and stand slightly out from the edge of the wheel arch extensions.
