Hi, I am putting the gear box together on my 1984 mini mayfair, and the 1st gear seems to have alot of `float` and nothing to hold it in place to stop it moving to the center web? is there something I am missing?

thank you for any help you can offer

John

The Sleeve that First Gear Needle Roller (and first gear) fit on to is locked when fitted up between the splines that the 1/2 Synchro Hub locate on to the the 3rd Motion Shaft Bearing. It's pulled town tight when the Pinion is fitted and then the Nut is tightened up.

The 3rd Motion Shaft needs to be slide over further, much further, towards the center web.

The 3rd Motion Shaft Bearing will position it.
