Anyone know of a pro around surrey that can clean the inside of an old motorcycle petrol tank and remove the old liner and then recoat it with something that will last with modern fuels?

I may give it a go myself but the old liner is proving to be an issue. It's just not reacting to chemicals I have, including industrial acetone. The tank is nearly 100 years old and impossible to replace so I dont know what else I can try that wont damage the tank.

That kit is what everyone recommends though once the tank is clean of the liner.

Getting the old stuff out is going to be tricky, best bet is somthing containing methyl chloride, but that's fairly hard to find now. I think it used to be in nitromoores until they made it safer in the mid 90s, allegedly it's still used in some specialist industrial strippers.

After thats gone, then the POR stuff is the best Imo

So I dropped the tank off at The Motorcycle Restoration Company in Essex. They had a good amount of older bikes in the shop which gave me confidence. I should know in a few weeks how it has turned out.

Jesus did they ruin my tank. It's absolutely filled with the tank sealant. I'm sure its sealed now but it's not gonna hold much gas. Probably went from weighing about 2kg to 20kg plus. One side of the split tank is completely sealed off, never to be used now.
A 100 year old tank that was in near perfect condition has been ruined by them. I will never find another one.
Stay far away from these guys.
