I'm just finishing a steel flip front on a wolseley hornet. I'm planning on using dzus fasteners through the wings, in front of the A panels. Does anyone know a supplier for stainless ones with the rivet on back plate? Also, any ideas what size I'd need to fit? It's only 2mm panel thickness with both together. I'm baffled how you work it out.

I think Demon Tweeks have them and I know Car Builder Solutions do too, though, I'm unsure is they have them in Stainless.

Personally, I don't think Stainless is a good idea, but up to you. While these won't rust any metal they are in contact with will do so and usually fairly quickly. It also has poor strength.

I'm looking for stainless steel as I've already tried bonnet pins, "stainless" spring clips, latch clamps and belts. They all went rusty very quickly. It's the reach for dzus fasteners I can't work out? Most seem to be meant for bike fairings, which are about 4mm thick? They seem a bit pricey to go for trial and error? I'm beginning to think nails and a big hammer are the answer?

To calculate the correct pairing of fastener and spring us the following formula: Add together the thicknesses of both panels to be fastened and the spring clearance. Subtract spring deflection (0.047" for EHF5 and 0.062" for EHF6). Then select the fastener with the nearest shaft length.

I saw the measurement guide for the 0.047". That works out as 1.2mm for deflection, plus 2mm for both panels? That means I need a dzus that's 3.2mm long! That can't be right, surely? The shortest I've seen are 12mm. Hmmm. Still baffled. I might have to admit defeat and ring demon tweeks.

I just measured mine and the bolt is 20mm overall length. It goes through one bit of fibreglass 1.5mm? And one bit of Ali 2mm. Hope that helps.

I wouldn't worry too much & plan on using some packing. If you make up the outer panel thickness to greater than the profile of the fastener it'll be easier to unfasten without snagging the bit of dzus that would be left standing proud.

I've gone for aeroloc fasteners in the end. slightly more pricey, but they should do the job. hopefully.
