Hi guys

Just a quickie I hope.  Do the headlamp bowls on late minis just use self tappers to screw into the body?  Do they have little clips on them at all?

Thanks

Andy

The headlamp bowls on my 94 Mayfair were originally attached with rivets.

When I removed and replaced the headlamp bowls on mine I used some small M5 nut bolts and washers instead of the rivets which I personally think are the most unsuitable type of fixing on a mini for pretty much any application but especially in areas that are exposed to the elements.

I drilled out the rivets and fitted rivnuts, better solution and no messing with nuts at the rear.

Rivnuts are a good solution.

My nuts aren't at the rear, if you'll forgive the expression. The bolt is positioned with the head under the arch and thread facing outwards held in by a washer and nut. So you get in effect 4 studs to mount the bowl on. A further set of nuts and washers hold the bowl in place with the rubber seal sandwiched between the lot. Sounds complicated but at the time I didn't have the means to fit rivnuts.

Hi andy

I fitted these recently: https://www.ebay.co....872.m2749.l2649

They are attached on with self tapping screws and spire clips. They were very easy to fit and seemed to be good quality: I would recommend.

an alternative to the self tappers and spire clips is to file out the holes to take the plastic inserts like those used to secure the washer motor - with stainless screws it's a rust free alternative
