If I take the heater out and lose the extra capacity it gives, do I need to put in a higher capacity or improved cooling radiator or fan. Dry weather running only for shows etc

The last two minis I have owned have had the heater disconnected and have both been fine,
they both had lots of holes in the matrix when I tried connecting them up
so just bypassed them again

Dont remove the heater as it's useful if the car gets hot in traffic

I think if it were me I would try and offset the loss of coolant capacity with an upgraded radiator and water pump.

It's not fun to be sitting in traffic watching the gauge climb.

Yes I have been there and seen it. Turn the heater to hot and turn the fan on. Just wondering if there is a way of increasing capacity under the engine bay or something. Ot electric fan maybe

I have an auxiliary fan fitted in addition to the heater.

The only other way to increase capacity is an expansion bottle or another heater matrix in the cooling circuit which defeats the purpose of removing the heater.

Just my opinion

I have seen it mentioned that you could re-route the heater matrix so it is in the engine bay, acting as a small secondary radiator?

Probably just more than an eggcup. The volume of the water roughly determines how long the engine takes to get hot.The airflow over the element cools, but you probably know this.Steve..

My 1964 mk1 850 has no heater and hasn't from new as far as I know. It lives in Queensland. We haven't had any overheating issues. All parts are standard.
