Hiff44 Carb Mini Wont Start.

Best Answer slidehammer , 07 June 2020 - 07:22 AM

If it has been standing a while, it might be worth just checking the fuel hasn't just gone off. I had this happen to me after only a couple of months in activity. What I would do before you pull the carb apart, is remove the top of the float bowl (carb still on the engine). Drain any fuel in there and fill it up with fresh and then try and start it. If the float bowl is dry when you take the top of that means the float valve is stuck and not letting fuel in any further than the inlet of the carb. If these fail to work then you will probably have to take the carb off and clean it out, but the SU is a simple beast and there isn't a lot in them to go wrong.

Hi all my project hasn't been started in a long while and I'm just looking for some pointers if possible. All 4 plugs spark when turning over and fuel is in the line up to the carb. It turns but will not fire. If I spray easy start into the inlet it will almost run. Does the carb need removing and cleaning? Thanks all

Yes you need to remove and clean the carb, they're fairly simple but it's been a while since I've stripped one so will let someone else post up with a basic cleaning routine

Hif carb has the float bowl on the bottom, the carb needs to come off to get to it.

Good point! I didn't read the description properly. I still think it would be worth rigging up some thing to test the petrol before it all gets pulled apart and wastes the gaskets and time etc.
