Good evening all,

A relatively simple query, can anyone please explain the mounting method of this to the dash rail, with regards to why there are washers on one half, and what I will call a "wiggly bracket" on the other?

The photo has been taken from eBay (Mini Division UK) but I have seen more than one kit like this so assume it is deliberate but do not know if this is clearance for the pedal box or to give adjustment etc.

Thank you

You also have the pedal box to add to the equation. But that’s just how it is.

Do you know why the sides are different though?

I looks like a right old bodge, when I did mine I had to check on here to see if it was right, and it’s how it left the factory

So what does the little wobbly plate actually do, does it make the column effectively collapsible in a crash?

This thread will be a big help, I've had to release the column to remove the pedal box and all the bits just fell out!

That's what has made me curious, I thought maybe the lower surface area would increase the clamping pressure but unlikely now. Why on earth is it yellow!

Thanks for that link, it's great to have photos to back it up.

Yellow because it is part of the safety design.

It allows the pedal box and column to move independently in a crash - they aren't physically bolted together and can slide relative to each other.

In the Minidivision photo the wobbly plate is actually upside down

Thanks Graeme, is that also why the top portion is tapered (with the captive nuts) or is that due to physical clearance?

No - that's so it fits inside the dash rail. From memory it will only fit one way,
