You need a new matrix as the casing will be holding the water until you lower it from the dash rail Go to the full post

Just a quick question:

Is there any explanation why my heater might be leaking coolant when I undo the screws to drop it down to floor level?   Obviously doing this also tilts it forward at an angle.     Quite a substantial amount drips into the footwells.   The leak is NOT at the hose clamps.

I'd have thought the obvious answer is that there's a matrix leak that needs fixing,  but the strange thing is,   when the heater is screwed back into position and the car engine is turned on  -  water pump turning and coolant flowing  -  there is no leak!

I probably really need to dismantle it to find out but my hands are full at the moment with various other repairs.

Thanks in advance.
